SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?
As things stand, even with the proposed changes, it makes sense that some people should consider paying into a ‘health pension’ to help save for the possibility of a future dementia diagnosis. ‘We encourage people with a diagnosis of dementia to plan for the future, thinking about the type of care they would want or where they would want to live should their care needs increase,’ says Gavin ‘This might include saving money for the future.’
However, Alzheimer’s Society believes free care should be available to all. ‘We are campaigning for properly funded social care that is free at the point of use,’ he adds. ‘We do advise putting financial tools in place, such as arranging for a Lasting Power of Attorney.’
