Paradise FOUND

You’ll soon discover there’s much more to Nassau and its glitzy neighbour Paradise Island than an amazing beach

-

It’s hard not to describe The Bahamas without mentioning the white sands and crystal-clear waters and the all-year-round tropical climate, but there is more to this beautiful archipelago of islands. Take Nassau, its laid-back but vibrant capital. With a swashbuckling past, iconic rum distilleries and a historic old town, it’s the perfect antidote to a day spent on its sun-kissed shores. And with direct flights from London, it’s super easy to reach.

Tempting as it may be to spend all day on the beach – notably Cable Beach with its gently lapping turquoise waters, soft sand and luxury resorts, such as

Baha Mar with its new water park – you’ll want to explore. From the vibrant Festival Place to bustling Bay Street, brimming with Bahamian crafts, it’s a shopper’s paradise. But if haute couture labels are more your thing, head over to Paradise Island – the glamorous isle accessible by a bridge. Famous for its sprawling Atlantis Paradise Island mega resort, you’ll not only find high-end boutiques, but lush lagoons, scuba diving and a world-class casino – something for everyone.

GASTRONOMIC NASSAU

For a flavour of Bahamian culture, there’s no better way to experience it than through its food. Conch – the indigenous sea snail – is everywhere on these isles. Similar to calamari, you can find it fried, steamed and stewed, and as a speciality salad topped with fresh mango and pineapple. Or for something a bit sweeter, try a delicious rum cake. Whether it’s at the five-star restaurant at Graycliff Hotel, the contemporary steakhouse, Carna at Baha Mar or the Arawak Cay Fish Fry on West Bay Street, there’s plenty of tasty delights. A tour of John Watling’s Distillery on the historic Buena Vista Estate to taste rum is also a must. Now that’s worth leaving the sun lounger for. And once you have done with exploring, relax with a Bahama Mama cocktail.

STAY IN STYLE

With many of its finest hotels located on its shores, you’ll be spoilt for choice of where to stay. Intimate couples retreats and family resorts, such as the luxury Rosewood Baha Mar and Margaritaville Beach Resort with its ocean-view rooms, are all perfectly placed to make the most of this vivacious city.

Nassau really is a dream destination for adventurers, history lovers, foodies and for those who adore the beach.
