Simple PLEASURES

- MIRANDA McMINN Editor, woman&home miranda.mcminn@futurenet.com

Ihave to admit that Mother’s Day is one of my favourite celebrations of the year. I always made a big fuss of my mum when I was little, and now I love getting the same attention from my three daughters. Some cards, flowers and a cooked breakfast involving neither preparation nor washing up and I’m a happy woman (I’m a pretty cheap date). We’re celebrating with some fabulous Mother’s Day bakes recipes (p154), a nostalgic look at TV mums – saints and monsters! – (p30), and a fascinating interview with three generations of mothers aged 94, 64 and 36 to see what’s changed about being a mother and daughter – and what hasn’t (p44).

Meanwhile, on our fashion pages, I’m loving our real women’s denim guide (p70). I had almost given up on jeans, not because I don’t love having the right pair but because finding them was just too hard. Standing under the harsh lighting of a changing cubicle trying on a million pairs that didn’t fit properly and looked hideous didn’t seem worth the dispiriting pain – even though slipping into the right pair is a great feeling. Well, now we can all cast this denim drama to one side with the brilliant advice from our fantastic fashion team. Whatever your shape, we’ve got the perfect pair for you.

And we have even more solutions for you in our homes special – those niggling parts of your kitchen, the blinds and curtains that you’ve never quite sorted out, and that corner of your home you haven’t found the right use for. All of it is tackled in our Problem solver special – just turn to p118 for the inspiration you need. Simple!

Enjoy the issue,
