EASY BREEZY HAIRCARE

-

A good hair day is perennially mood-shifting, however, the last thing you want to do in the summer months is grapple with a hairdryer. These smart styling solutions will give you that gorgeous, tousled, ‘fresh back from the beach’

look without having to set foot in an airport.

For beachy texture

Sea salt sprays like Redken Beach Spray, £21, lookfantastic.com, emulate that beautifully undone texture you get after a day on the beach. Lightly spritz through dry mid-lengths and ends, and scrunch. Whatever they promise, a spray is unlikely to create waves – if your hair is naturally wavy or curly, it’ll enhance it; if it’s poker-straight, a salt spray will give your hair more texture and movement. If you find gritty salt off-putting, try a styling spray without it, like Umberto Giannini Boho Beach Waves Coconut Oil Texture Spray,

£8.45, boots.com

For lazy styling

Air dry creams are a great way of smoothing out frizz for a sleeker finish without having to use heat. Work through damp ends after washing, or to tidy up frazzled ends a few days after wash day.

For protection

UV rays can harm your hair just as it can your skin. Heat will dry out strands and speed up colour fade, so keep it protected with some dedicated suncare.

Sam Mcknight Sundaze Sea Spray, £26, spacenk.com, is a multitasker – it shields hair but is also infused with conditioning oils and sea salt to give hair that beachy texture without the crispness.

For styling without the heat

If you have straight hair but still want some movement, you can catch a wave without resorting to tongs. The old-fashioned way is to plait your hair when it’s damp, leave plaits in until it dries, then

take them out. It’s still a surprisingly effective technique, if a little bit frizz-prone. For something sleeker, try Silke London Heatless Curler, £42, lookfantastic.com. Wrap damp hair around the band and secure in place for a couple of hours (ideally overnight). The result is truly impressive – glossy, bouncy waves without heat damage. >>
