Coast How to work the COAST LOOK
Head to the beach to create your very own seaside haven. Coastal style is a look that never
dates, although each season, designers present us with a subtle twist or two to keep it fresh. This summer, look out for shades of sand, nestled alongside chambray
and white, while shells are a must-use coastal motif (try shell artwork, printed linen or wallpapers). For texture think wicker, rattan, jute and reclaimed wood
– perfect additions to a neutral scheme, enhancing coastal style.

Pare things back with white painted walls and pale flooring. If you want to add a feature wall, try a sandy terracotta, or yellow shade, or a shell-design wallpaper. 2
‘The coastal look is simple in style, but you can add in groupings – or collections – of art, ceramics and frames,’ says Chrissie Rucker OBE, founder of The White Company. 3
Use lots of natural fabrics and fibres, such as linen, wool and cotton. This look is about relaxed styling, so drape rather than neatly fold throws and blankets. 4
Bring in accents of sea blue. Try tableware or table linen in this soft shade, which can be easily mixed with existing crisp whites. 5 Style a shelf with beachinspired finds, like coral ornaments, driftwood and fish- or shell-inspired ceramics. 6 ‘Don’t underestimate the power of scent in a coastal scheme. Ozonic fragrances with notes of sea salt and woody tones are perfect to take you on a coastal journey,’ shares Chrissie. >>
