1 The clean-up

Wipe away any remaining nail polish in a flash with remover pads. our favourite? Butter London Scrubbers 2-in-1 Prep + Remover wipes, £10. one pad can handle all 10 fingers, and the abrasive finish will speed up the clean-up process no end.

2 The file and shape

use a glass nail file to get your shape right. not only are they better for your nail (the smoother finish causes less damage), but they create your perfect shape in fewer strokes. a quick and fool-proof method is to simply round off the sides of your nails to form a naturallooking oval shape.

3 The cuticle treatment

the easiest step of all – just leave them alone! cuticles should be a pro-only zone.

4 The big buff

a quick 30-second nail buff will help polish go on more evenly. Buffing means you’ll only need a thin layer of polish for a perfect finish – so they’ll dry quicker, too. The Body Shop nail Polishing Block, £4

5 The polish

slick on a basecoat as it’s the barrier that prevents you staining your nails with polish. next, apply a polish with enough pigment to make a single coat sufficient. Finish with a top coat to add gloss. Barry m all-in-one Basecoat, Topcoat & nail Hardener, £2.99, does it all!

6 The speedy finish

a quick dose of Bourjois Instant Dry nail Drops, £5.99, on top of your mani goes a long way. Your nails dry to a light touch in around 30 seconds. Don’t expect to be able to rummage in your handbag, but you’ll be able to read, type and drive while keeping your mani in place!
