Healthy eating is hot right now
Participants who ate the most vegetables and consumed the least processed foods, sugary drinks and unhealthy fats lost the most weight. Individuals were advised to choose highquality foods, but were not given suggested calorie limits. ‘We eat to fill our stomach and, if that’s with vegetables, we tend to lose weight, whereas if it’s with chocolate and French fries, flushed down with soda, we gain weight,’ explains Professor Lennert Veerman from the School of Medicine at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia.
Shifting pounds isn’t rocket science (or molecular biology, in this case!). ‘Clichéd perhaps, but the best way to lose weight healthily is to eat regularly, targeting all food groups, especially lean protein and vegetables, and avoiding junk food,’ says Dr Daniel.
