SHE WAS SO RUDE!

-

Since I started a new job recently, one woman at the firm has been helpful and supportive. She invited me to join her and a couple of other colleagues for a drink after work and I was really looking forward to it. So it ruined the evening to see how she treated the staff at the place we went to. She was rude and overbearing, and at one stage even snapped her fingers to get attention – I didn’t know people actually did that! She’s perfectly fine at work but I don’t want to go out with her again.

My granny used to say, ‘Never trust anyone who is rude to waiters’. Rudeness to one is rudeness to all, and may well be turned on you if she sees fit. What I think it reveals is a lack of self-confidence – an attempt to seem in charge when she fears she’s not. But it’s not your job to address this. You could, as a colleague, support and help her and hope it results in her treating others with more respect. But until she does, my advice is to have another commitment each time she asks you out.
