Plastic is not as fantastic as natural

As Christina Aguilera goes make-up free, our columnist wonders why more celebs don’t follow

-

Plastic surgery is going out of fashion for us ‘normals’. The number of ops fell by 16% in 2016 and a further 8% in 2017. Yet in some celeb circles, the need to go under the knife is as popular as ever.

Loose Women panellist Rebekah Vardy has had another boob job to boost her cup size. Anyone who watched 2017’s I’m A

Celeb... would testify her figure looked pretty perfect before this latest surgery. And her England footballer husband Jamie doesn’t seem that fussed about the op. Rebekah said, ‘He’s happy that I’m happy, but he thought they looked great before.’

Revealingly, she added, ‘I wish I’d never messed with my boobs in the first place, but my self-esteem was so low.’ And therein lies what is often the truth about the need to go under the knife. Low self-esteem. Rebekah had her first boob job to boost her confidence after the birth of her son, Taylor. Katie Price was pictured recently with her face distorted by procedures. I interviewed Katie back before she’d had any surgery. She was naturally beautiful but was inexplicably lacking in body confidence. She told Piers Morgan she’d been sexually assaulted as a child and I’ve always wondered if the assault and need for endless surgery are linked. Rumours of surgery have long followed singer Christina Aguilera, who grew up in a background of domestic violence. But recent gorgeous pictures of her make-up free in US magazine Paper are breathtaking because she looks so natural. So I implore you, ladies, repeat to yourselves the words of Aguilera’s most famous song, ‘I am beautiful, no matter what they say.’
