On The Box What to watch
Having previously appeared in Love & Marriage and The Catherine Tate Show, niky’s currently starring in BBC1 comedy Home from Home. She plays Fiona, who’s gone on holiday to the Lake district with her husband neil, played by Benidorm star Johnny Vegas, and their kids. Here, she talks about the filming this light-hearted show…
what drew you to Home from Home? many things, especially Johnny vegas! i was very excited about the possibility of working with him as we’d met a few times before and i’d always liked him. also, i think Johnny vegas is a beautiful actor, so it was win-win. i had really enjoyed the pilot, so i knew i loved the world of the show and the feel of it. it’s so warm and funny. and Fiona – i felt i knew who she was and was in no doubt i’d have a lovely time playing her. Tell us more about Fiona... she’s completely happy with where she’s at in life. she and neil could do with a bit more money, but the fundamental things in her life couldn’t be better in her eyes. she loves neil, she’s immensely proud of their sons, likes her job and now, to top it all, they’ve managed to get a holiday home! she’s someone who’s at ease with who she is.
what does Fiona think of their new neighbours, The dillons [played by adam James and emilia Fox]? she likes robert enormously and feels very at ease with him. she’s more unsure of penny, as they don’t spend much time together. she admires penny’s wardrobe, but it doesn’t knock her confidence. as i said before, i think Fiona is entirely happy with who she is.
How was it filming in the Lake district? glorious! i mean, what a place. i didn’t get much time off, but i fitted in a visit to lowther castle, which i loved, and a boat trip on ullswater. We did a scene on a hot air balloon on the clearest day, so you can imagine the views. probably my favourite day at work ever!
