Settling on the sofa, I switched on the TV to watch one of my favourite murder mysteries. I enjoy anything to do with crime and forensics.

‘I love these programmes,’ I chuckled to my husband John, 71. ‘In fact, I could probably commit the perfect murder!’

He laughed. After more than half a century together, he knew I was joking! We were enjoying our retirement after working as a nurse and in the Army. With two grown-up children, Neil, 44, and Julie, 42, this was our time now.

We’d jet off on holiday as much as possible – I love travelling and seeing the world. With a huge win on Woman Bingo in November 2016 – a staggering £9,734 – we travelled to the Caribbean, the Canary Islands and America.

I started playing Woman Bingo in March 2011 when I saw my sister Janice, 63, playing it on her laptop. It wasn’t long until I was a fan, too.

Now, in March 2018, I’d got two for the price of one on the Bingo Lounge, paying £4 for 40 10p tickets. As the drama unfolded on TV, I let the game play out. In online bingo the numbers are automatically dabbed off for you.

Since my big win, I’d bagged £1,000 in 2017 and the odd £400 here and there, but I didn’t expect anything huge. But then the last number came up and it matched mine. The amount flashed up – £3,246! ‘My number is up!’ I screamed.

John’s mouth dropped open. ‘Never!’ he cried. ‘Not again?’

I rang Janice to tell her. ‘And it’s all thanks to me telling you about it,’ she laughed.

John and I treated our grandchildren with a bit of the cash, then booked ourselves a holiday to Mexico. I’ve won over £14,000 on

Woman Bingo over the years, so I really should treat Janice to something too…
