aActually, it seems that wearing a bra during the day and night for a short time after surgery is less uncomfortable that not! Get a surgical bra – made from a seamless soft fabric. If you aren’t having reconstruction at the same time, it may have a pocket or pouch in the bra to put a prosthesis in if you wanted. Some surgical bras also act as a form of compression – they apply pressure to the area to ease swelling. For the first year after surgery it is recommended to wear wellfitting, soft-seamed, fullcupped bras with no underwires as scar and breasts take time to recover. And afterwards, if you want to, there are postmastectomy bras and swimwear available with pockets in for padding on one side. Alternatively, you may wish to consider a breast reconstruction.
