i’m feeling depressed during winter

-

QThe nights are so early these days – it feels like I never see daylight, and even at the weekends it is dull and grey. I feel really low every winter. Why?

Philippa says

AIt sounds like you may have Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), kind of seasonal depression, being worse in the winter months. The symptoms are the same as for depression in general – persistent low mood, feelings of sadness, worthlessness or being a failure and tearfulness. Physical symptoms of SAD include feeling sleepy, struggling to get up, difficulties with memory and concentration and increased appetite. SAD may be related to the lack of sunlight affecting the rhythms and hormones in the body. Visit your GP who will discuss treatments.
