All we really want in January is a takeaway in front of the telly. Don’t derail your diet though, for the sake of a curry in front of Corrie. Fitness star Joe wicks has created a range of recipes that mimic our muchloved takeaways. Think of them as ‘fake-aways’. and what’s more he’s made them all veggie.

‘i love meat, but i also absolutely love my veg!’ says Joe. ‘There’s this idea that veggie food is boring – my new book proves that’s not the case. it can be fun and packed full of flavour.’

Plus, you – and the planet – can benefit from eating veggie food, too. ‘You can get everything you need from vegetarian food – carbs and protein from veg, fruits, legumes, grains, and fat from things like olives, cheese, nuts, avocados, even seeds,’ explains Joe. ‘Veggie food is a lot more sustainable than meat and less harmful on the environment.’

So, we’ve got the healthy takeaways sorted, but what else can we do to get in shape this year and keep our motivation going? Joe reveals that it’s key to ‘prep like a boss’. ‘Planning meals in advance means you’re less likely to go for the pre-made sandwiches, the fast food or the easy option, which isn’t always the best option,’ says Joe. Why not take a bit of last night’s dinner for lunch the next day or batch cook meals in advance? ‘make sure your store cupboard is full too – it’s about having a variety of ingredients. You’re more likely to cook good nutritious meals if you have the stuff ready and waiting,’ he adds. oh, and don’t think that you have to deprive yourself to lose weight. ‘Having a treat day or a blowout once in a while is fine. You’re more likely to stop eating well if you’re strict on yourself – don’t let a bad day turn into a bad week!’ and while you’re at it, ditch the scales. Joe reveals, ‘They’ll only ever make you feel unhappy. i’ve seen it myself – people on my plan who’ve dropped two dress sizes, but the scales only say they’ve lost 2lb. muscle weighs more than fat, so weighing yourself will never give you an honest picture of your body composition.’ instead, take before and after photos and measurements of your waist, thighs and arms. They’re the real indication of how well you’re doing!

as well as eating right though, exercise is also key. Factor in 15 minutes a day, four to five times a week, for a quick Hiit (high intensity interval training) session.
