Is it just me who feels queasy when jet-setting celebs tell us to look after the environment?

What you’ll be watching on TV in the weeks ahead…

TALKING HEADS BBC1

Alan Bennett’s series of dramatic monologues, first aired in 1988 and 1998, is being remade for BBC1 with stars including Lesley Manville and Imelda Staunton. The stories deal with a variety of timely subjects, such as death, guilt, illness and isolation.

I MAY DESTROY YOU, BBC1 Michaela Coel leads the cast of this 12-part drama that explores dating, relationships and sexual consent. She plays young writer Arabella, who’s sexually assaulted in a nightclub and forced to reassess her life.

No one is happy about lockdown, but have you noticed how much greener life feels without light pollution, traffic and so many planes flying overhead? The air seems cleaner, the sky brighter and the birdsong louder.

Celebs have wasted no time hitching themselves to the green wagon. But they haven’t quite got it right.

Taylor Swift [right], for example, has sold her $6 million Dassault Falcon 50 private jet. Good on her. Such luxury transport is considered so bad for the environment, one think tank asked for them to be banned in Britain.

Scientists reckon privatejet passengers create 10 times as much greenhouse gas as an economy-class traveller on a commercial flight, and

150 times more than train passengers. The trouble is Taylor’s plane was just one of two she owns. She still has her bigger

Falcon 900 at her disposal – so not quite the green queen we imagine.

Stella Mccartney has been using recycled pullovers to create designer jumpers. That’s all wool and good until you realise the new garments cost a prohibitive £735. Wouldn’t it be better to make them affordable for customers who buy fast fashion purely because it’s cheap? Remember when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were flaunting their climate credentials too, including announcing they were planning on only having two children for environmental reasons? Then it was reported the couple used a private jet to go on holiday…

And, finally, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are presenting new series Dancing On Thin Ice about the impact of climate change. And, guess what? They travelled to Alaska to film it. The amount of hot air celebs are spouting about global warming is enough to melt the Arctic.

A happy new chapter

I’m delighted Charlie Gard’s parents have had a healthy baby scan. They lost their fight to keep Charlie alive against medical advice. Like Charlie, my first child, Elvi, has a genetic disorder. She’s so loved, but I know only too well just how fraught subsequent pregnancies can be.

Niall Horan goes a bit doollally over his robotic vacuum cleaner.

Make that! (Or not, in Robbie’s case)

Yet another astounding confession from Robbie Williams, who admits, ‘I haven’t cooked, ever. The last thing I cooked was a Pot Noodle. Since I wrote Angels, I have people to do that.’

Erm, you can’t claim a Pot Noodle as cooking, Rob, that’s called ‘heating’.
