Desperate to heal her itchy skin problem

Woman’s GP Dr Philippa Kaye answers your questions

-

QMy daughter has been suffering from dry itchy skin for over a year on her arms, face and under her breasts. She has had creams and tablets but nothing works. Then a doctor said it was pityriasis versicolor. She was given a wash to put all over and leave on for 5 mins before washing it off, but that still didn’t work. She is 28 and at her wits’ end. What do you think?

Philippa says

APityriasis versicolor is treated with an antifungal shampoo to be used for up to two weeks. Alternatives include a selenium shampoo or oral antifungal medication, and exercising an hour after taking them encourages sweating, which brings the medication to the skin surface.
