WHERE IS MY CERVIX?

QI think I may have damaged my cervix. When I last attended my smear test, the nurse couldn’t see where my cervix is. I’m worried that there is something wrong if they couldn’t find it!

AIt can be difficult to see a cervix; after all we aren’t all the same and everyone’s will be in slightly different positions. Changing positions can help, or putting your hands under your bottom to lift it slightly, or coughing can bring the cervix into view. Your nurse or doctor will need to see it to do your screening test, so if they can’t see it, then they should examine you to get an idea of where the cervix is before they insert the speculum, and sometimes even a longer speculum may be needed.
