Confused by the fruit and veg rules
QI know we are supposed to eat five portions of fruit and veg per day, but I have read in various places that anything from three portions to eight is OK; five of which should be veg. What is the correct amount to keep me healthy?

AEating more fruit and vegetables is good for you, we know that; it helps keep your weight healthy and can improve your cholesterol. While the NHS recommends five portions of fruit and vegetables per day, for many people this is still really optimistic. A recent study showed that eating a piece of fruit and a large serving of veg each day could reduce the risk of stroke (caused by a blood clot in the brain) by 13%, which is significant! So aim for five portions, but at least one of fruit, and a large serving of veg mentioned in the study.
