It’s about quality not quantity in the bedroom

-

Paloma Faith wishes she had slept around more before settling down. The singer has been with her partner, French artist Leyman Lahcine, for the past seven years but admitted she regrets not having sex with more people when she was single.

Speaking on Instagram Live, Paloma said, ‘I wish I’d had more now. Do you want to know my number? It’s rubbish, 12.’

That’s a very personal stat to blurt out in an interview. It’s like sharing your smear test results on Youtube. I wonder how Leyman feels about this. Isn’t it a bit of a kick in the nether regions to know your missus wishes she’d been more sexually active before meeting you?

And Paloma’s regret begs the question: is 12 SUCH a rubbish number? A 2018 survey found women aged between 54 and 72 – the ‘boomer’ generation – had slept with an average of seven partners. Millennials, those aged 23 to 37, had an average of 10 partners. So Paloma’s doing all right in terms of quantity.

We have all been given a powerful reminder of the fragility of life and are wondering how to make the most of our lives. No one ever lay on their deathbed wishing they’d had less sex but surely quality is more important than quantity. Having an unsatisfactory and embarrassing one-night stand is never going to equal the sensory fulfilment of making love with someone who knows how to bring you pleasure.

Don’t worry about the notches on your bed post, Paloma, just enjoy what’s going on between the sheets.
