WHY GO?

With its miles of twinkling waterways and endless rows of gently swaying palms, this upmarket resort in the eastern stretches of Florida certainly lives up to its namesake. Known as a playground for the rich and famous, thanks to its elegant mix of retro Hollywood glam and smalltown feel, days are spent indulging in poolside brunches, perusing designer boutiques, cycling along shaded nature trails and being pampered in beachfront spas – all served with a sunny slice of warm Floridian charm. Bliss!

The most striking thing about The Palm Beaches are their natural beauty – a flock of pelicans or long-necked heron can swoop past at any moment. Explore the native flora and fauna at the Jupiter Outdoor Center. Here, you can kayak down the gentle Loxahatchee River. Even the shopping centres are inspired by nature. The Royal Poinciana Plaza houses boutiques framed with garlands of roses set around a lush garden. A lemon and ginger juice shot at hip cafe Celis Produce is the perfect pick-me-up. Later, head back on the water for a Moonlight Mermaids Catamaran Cruise.

FEEL-GOOD FOOD

The Palm Beaches do al fresco dining in style. At waterfront restaurant 1000 North, owned by basketball player Michael Jordan, tuck into stuffed artichokes on a sun-dappled waterfront terrace with spectacular views. Over at Elisabetta’s Ristorante in hip Delray Beach, authentic pizzas and pastas are served up on a delightfully leafy terrace. And down the road at Yaxche Tearoom + Emporium, scrumptious handmade cakes and fruit teas are enjoyed on the porch shaded by the majestic Yaxche tree, the Mayan tree of life.
