It’s a multimillion-pound industry, but can a short-term cleanse really be good for your health?
January is – thankfully – well behind us, with millions of us having tried, and perhaps failed, a new year ‘cleanse’. The trend has exploded in recent years, with the detox-product market worth more than £30m – set to rise to £40m in the next five years.
Juicing, teas and cutting out food groups are popular. They promise anything from a flatter tum and clearer skin to shiny hair and more energy. Many Hollywood stars are big fans of a pre-award ceremony cleanse to beat the bloat and get in that showstopping dress.
But some nutritionists warn ‘quick fixes’ can be dangerous or cause weight gain in the long term. So, is there a healthy way to detox? Woman investigates.
