Time to take Meghan’s claims with a pinch of salt?

The mystery behind Prince Harry and Meghan’s secret wedding is finally solved

- By royal biographer Duncan Larcombe

Senior royals were baffled by Meghan’s claim that she secretly married Prince Harry three days before her Windsor wedding.

The duchess merrily made the revelation to Oprah Winfrey, boasting ‘no one knows that,’ and a source tells me, ‘There was a lot of confusion at the palace. Not a single soul was aware of any such ceremony. Even the Queen started wondering if Meghan was being serious or whether this was just one more surprise in the mix.’

Is Meghan perhaps the first bride in history to mistake her actual wedding for the rehearsal? That would be funny, but for the fact it raises a wider question about some of the more serious claims she made in her interview.

The duchess seems to have been mistaken about the afternoon she and Harry exchanged vows during a private rehearsal with the Archbishop of Canterbury. Does that mean other attempts to remember events of 2018 were also a struggle?

In the heat of what must have been unimaginable pressure as the big day approached, most people would understand if tempers flared and there were a few tears. I imagine Meghan in a pre-wedding daze, worrying about her father’s deals with paparazzi, siblings who might twist the knife and the weight of expectations.

Yes, Meghan is an actor, but she’d have to be built from reinforced concrete not to have been frightened, confused and overwhelmed by the magnitude of the situation. In that state of mind, could she have mistaken the comments of those around her? And did the Duchess of Cambridge really make her cry?

While I have great sympathy for how hard it must have been for Meghan, the apparent confusion over the wedding makes one wonder if we must take a pinch of salt with some of the other aspects of what was claimed.
