ARE THERE ANY DOG BREEDS THAT DON’T HAVE ISSUES WITH THEIR ANAL GLANDS?

-

Ongoing issues with anal glands can be a source of discomfort for a dog and frustration for an owner. Recent studies have identified those dogs most at risk and those who don’t tend to be affected. The Cavalier King Charles, cockapoo and Shih Tzu tend to suffer most, whereas breeds like boxers, lurchers and Staffies rarely develop anal gland issues. This is likely due to their body shape and genetics.

Keeping dogs slim, and ensuring they are active and have plenty of fibre in their diet can help keep anal gland problems to a minimum.
