I need a new cat brush

-

QMy cat has long hair and I struggle to keep on top of brushing it. Do you have any grooming suggestions?

EMMA SAYS

AMany cats will groom themselves, but longer-haired cats often need help keeping on top of tangles. At work we often see the worst cases, which may need to be sedated to have the matted bits clipped out. Don’t be embarrassed if things have got out of hand, just come in.

Brushing regularly can help to minimise fur balls and keeps your cat feeling their best – it is a good way to spend quality time bonding with your cat too. Different coats need different brushes, and it’s worth finding a brush that suits your cat’s fur and that you find easy and comfortable to use. There are many on the market, but one of my favourites to use is the Furminator, which is great for long-haired cats. It’s comfortable to hold and gently removes loose hair from both the top coat and the undercoat. Follow the instructions when using it; make long, gentle strokes from head to tail, and take extra care if your cat’s skin is particularly sensitive or the knots are very bad.
