LIKE TWO SPOILT CHILDREN

-

Rebekah Vardy versus Coleen Rooney in the so-called Wagatha Christie case – what a ridiculous waste of time and money.

The ongoing legal battle over whether the former leaked stories on the latter has already cost millions – far exceeding any damages that could feasibly be awarded when the whole sorry saga finally reaches a conclusion. (The trial is scheduled for May, if you’re wondering.)

These two WAGS are rich beyond most people’s wildest dreams, largely thanks to their husbands. But they look to me like two spoilt children as they chuck all their dirty laundry around in public and desperately try to prove they are the wronged party. Already, judges have pleaded with them to settle. But both women – who have nine kids between them – are refusing to back down, seemingly desperate to have their day in court to prove the truth.

Really? It’s all so unsavoury. Yes, if Becky leaked the stories on her pal, she really shouldn’t have, it’s not the done thing. Of course the wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy strongly denies it, insisting that she has no reason to – because she is hardly strapped for cash.

When Coleen, wife of ex-england star Wayne, suspected her former friend and did her clever Wagatha Christie-style sting by blocking others from seeing her Instagram posts, she should have had it out with her privately. Instead, she put her direct accusations all over Twitter, leading Becky to sue for defamation.

It now seems to hinge on whether Coleen can prove it was Becky herself who leaked the stories via her Instagram rather than someone else using the account.

Since then a phone containing crucial messages has ended up in the North Sea, a laptop with evidence has stopped working and messages appear to have been deleted. In short, it’s all a bit of a farce. And the only people really enjoying it, I suspect, are the lawyers.

When it’s all over, I’m fairly sure the public will have lost sympathy with either woman - if they ever had any in the first place…
