I want to go green and not buy a Mother’s Day card but I know Mum will be upset

-

Q My kids and I have been really embracing sustainability and trying to be greener. It’s going well but I don’t know what to do about Mother’s Day. Buying a card seems such a waste but I know my mum will be hurt if we don’t bother with the tradition. A RAE SAYS It’s great that your family has been working together to go green, as it’s easier to make changes when everyone you live with is on board, too. Sharing your new habits with other relatives can be tricky, though, especially when it comes to special occasions that involve everyone – like Mother’s Day. The good news is that, as with many sustainability dilemmas, you don’t have to make an either/or decision because there is usually a compromise that can be reached. If you don’t want to buy a card, get your children to make one or draw a picture for your mum instead. You could even encourage them to include what they love most about their grandma. She’ll see you’ve put time and effort into making something much more personal.
