It should have been the high point of his career, but the Oscars saw Will Smith making headlines for all the wrong reasons. As comedian Chris Rock made a gag onstage about Jada Pinkett-smith’s shaved head [Jada has spoken about her struggle with alopecia], nobody could guess what was about to happen. He remarked, ‘Jada, I love you – GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see it.’ And while her husband Will appeared to laugh at first, it wasn’t long until he was up on stage taking a physical swipe at Chris, then ordering him, ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your f ***** g mouth.’ Just 15 minutes later, he won his first Oscar for his role in King Richard, though unsurprisingly it wasn’t that that everyone was talking about.
