The punches
JAB
A straight punch with your lead hand. Step in with your front foot as you extend your fist with your knuckles pointing downwards, then bring your hand back to your face.
CROSS
Straight punch with your back hand (if you’re right-handed, this is your right fist). Pivot off your back foot as you extend your arm in alignment with your shoulder, knuckles down. Bring your hand back to your face.
REAR HOOK
Pivot towards your rear hand. Keep your elbow at 90 degrees as you throw a punch. Bring your hands back to your face.
LEAD HOOK
Both feet will pivot. Pivot towards your lead hand – your back heel will lift. Keep your elbow at 90 degrees as you throw your punch. Bring your hands back to your face.
LEAD UPPERCUT
Shift your weight a little to the front foot, lower your stance and drop your front arm slightly. Keep your back hand protecting your chin. Rotate your hips and drive your front hand upwards, with your palm towards your face.
REAR UPPERCUT
Drop your back hand considerably lower. Rotate your hips and, as you turn your shoulders, make an arc-type of movement with your forearm through the point you want to punch, finishing at a 90 degree angle to the ground.
