THE PODIATRIST

-

Your doctor or physio may suggest that you’re examined by a podiatrist to help to fine-tune your treatment. ‘We are experts in the foot and lower limb, and can help with a variety of different issues,’ explains Emma Mcconnachie of the Royal College of Podiatry. ‘Do ask for help if you have joint pain in your feet or ankles that is new and persistent or has been bothering you for two weeks.’ EMMA SUGGESTS:

Treat your feet Reduce joint pain with a thick, cushioned sole, and laces or straps to help to keep the middle of your foot secure.

Stretch your legs Doing calf stretches will help your feet to stay supple. Search ‘stop calf pain’ on Youtube.

Flex your toes Using your toes to pick up a towel from the floor (or even small toys that your children or grandchildren leave around) will keep them mobile.

✱ If your foot condition affects your health and mobility, you should be able to get a chiropody (aka podiatrist) appointment on the NHS.
