EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY
Dinner parties were sorely missed during the pandemic. Now they’re back, and you’ll be pleased to hear that sharing a bottle of wine at the table may benefit your health. Drinking a glass of wine with a meal was associated with a 14% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared with drinking wine without food, according to research presented at a recent American health conference**.
And on the menu? Keep diabetes at bay with a meal packed with fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. You should also try to cut back on butter, oils high in saturated fat – such as palm oil and coconut oil – and processed snacks, such as crisps, crackers and biscuits.
In the UK, 13.6 million people are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, yet the condition is not only preventable, it’s also reversible. ‘Improving your nutrition is the most important thing you can do,’ says Dr Alona Pulde from Lifesum.
