Clachaig Inn, Argyll
Settings don’t come more spectacular – or Scottish hospitality warmer – than at this 300-year-old pub in the heart of Glencoe. One bar has a wood burner, log stacks, slate floors and bar mounted on barrels, while the Bidean lounge has mountaineering bric-a-brac and views of mighty Aonach Dubh. Guests are as likely to be families as walkers and climbers, but all devour solid Scottish classics like haggis, neeps and tatties. The walking is, unsurprisingly, sensational, be it an easy route to Signal Rock or half-day trek to the Pap of Glencoe. Return for folk music and some of the 365 whiskies or 130-plus Scottish gins. clachaig.com
