Can I take my dog out in the heat?

-

QMy dog loves walks and I don’t want her to miss out. Can we still exercise when it’s hot?

AWalking dogs in the midday summer sun is dangerous for them. Dogs will still be keen to go out, but it’s important to be responsible. It’s better to have no walk at all than to go out in the heat. Early mornings or late evenings are cooler and safer times to walk your dog. But remember, it can remain hot late into the day, so don’t let them do too much running around after balls. Pets can get nasty burns on their feet from hot roads and pavements, too. Hold your bare hand on the pavement; if it’s uncomfortable for you, then it’s definitely too hot for your dog.
