My friend has completely changed

Q A friend who once lived miles away recently moved back to the area we live in. We’ve seen each other a few times, and although I can remember how it was, it’s not the same. She’s become critical and spiteful. We met up with her and our respective grandchildren, and hers were a nightmare – out of control and rough. At one point my husband had to tell them off, not only for hitting our youngest, but tearing branches off trees. Now she says my husband, who is a kind and loving man adored by everyone, is horrible, and that unless I leave him behind we can’t meet again. What should I do?

A Has she added anything irreplaceable and pleasant to your life since you have reconnected? It doesn’t sound as if she has. Instead, she’s brought stress and misery. You and your grandchildren – and of course, your husband – can do without her. Time to move on from this friendship.
