‘THE POORLY BEHAVED FEW CAN’T RUIN IT FOR THE REST OF US’

-

Amy Nickell, 32, is a journalist and broadcaster and lives in Berkhamsted with her fiance Jonathan, 42, and her son, seven. Airports are the only place where time is suspended and it is socially acceptable to drink at 9am, and that will never not be the best part of any holiday!

For some travellers, an airport bar is the only destination to temporarily overshadow the actual destination and make their flying experience bearable, especially now with the added crowds and chaos.

Once on board, for some passengers a couple of those tiny bottles of red wine are the preferred way to conquer any sleep on a night flight. And what would an evening flight to Ibiza have been in my 20s without a couple of G&TS with the girls?

However, with all that altitude and recycled air, it can prove a tricky tightrope to walk. One of my funniest memories was when my dad’s keenness for an on-board whisky led to an impromptu rendition of Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head to a bemused cabin as he failed to realise he could be heard with his headphones on.

But to ban drinking altogether and let the poorly behaved few ruin it for the rest and best of us who love nothing more than a few pre-holiday bevvies? No way.
