Get up and about

-

We know, deep down, that spending the whole day horizontal isn’t good for us, but now a San Diego State University study has revealed exactly how potentially dangerous doing this regularly could be as we age. Shockingly, in your 60s, every hour spent sedentary each day – whether that’s watching TV or reading a book – raises your risk of stroke by 14%.

The good news? Those who did 14 or more minutes of moderate or vigorous exercise a day – like going on a brisk walk or cycle – reduced their risk by a huge 47% compared to people who did less than three minutes. The ideal amount of time spent exercising per day is 25 minutes, according to the study authors, so you may want to slightly extend your walk around the block.
