LEAVE IT TO THE PROFESSIONALS
Save Face accredited aesthetics practitioner Amish Patel, founder of Intrigue Cosmetic Clinic (intriguecosmetic clinic.com), says, ‘Dermal fillers need to be more regulated. It is reported that two thirds of patient complaints relate to dermal fillers, and over 80% of these complaints were treatments carried out by beauticians, hairdressers and laypeople.
‘I believe that dermal fillers should be classed as a “prescription-only medicine”, meaning that only prescribing medical professionals can obtain them. This would be a significant change in the right direction.
‘Furthermore, their use and a review of who should be allowed to inject them should be limited to registered healthcare professionals only. As registered healthcare professionals, we are accountable to our respective medical bodies and must adhere to high hygiene standards, safety and professionalism at all times. Non-healthcare professionals have no such accountability and therefore have nothing to lose.’
