It was a court case that dominated the news. Never has a defamation case – televised for the whole world to see and comment on – caused such a stir. So what actually went on?

Actor Johnny, 59, sued his ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million in damages after she wrote an article for the Washington Post in 2018, in which she described herself as ‘a public figure representing domestic abuse’. Amber, 36, countersued for a cool $100 million when Johnny’s attorney called her allegations fake.

After six weeks of shocking revelations, including intimate details of the former couple’s relationship and a testimony from Kate Moss, the court ruled largely in Johnny’s favour. The Pirates of the Caribbean star was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, while Amber received a mere $2 million for her countersuit.

So will Amber’s career suffer as a result? Only time will tell.
