He lied about gambling
Q I recently found my husband had gambled away £10,000 of our savings. He absolutely denied it and made up all sorts of stories. But I had proof – an empty bank account for one, plus crumpled betting slips. He promised he wouldn’t gamble or lie to me again. Last night, I found another betting slip. He tried to lie, then confessed, and I asked him to go and stay with his parents while I decide what I want to do. He insists he hasn’t got a gambling problem and is begging for forgiveness.
SUZIE SAYS
A He has a gambling problem – no doubt. He’s risked your financial security, he’s betrayed your trust and he’s imperilled your marriage, all stone cold indications of a problem. It’s an addiction and unless he accepts that, has to face the consequences of his behaviour and gets proper help, he’ll do it again. And again. Don’t back down because simply asking for – and being given – forgiveness will make little difference to his actions. Gamcare (gamcare.org.uk) can help you both.
