POOR EYESIGHT ISN’T INEVITABLE

-

Squinting at the TV more and more, but think it’s just because you’re getting old? You’re among the two-thirds of Brits who mistakenly think that sight loss is a natural part of ageing, as a survey by Guide Dogs found.

As many as one in 10 of us are not aware that sight loss could be preventable. Only 12% thought long periods of uninterrupted screen time could be an issue and just 2% thought using out of date or unclean make-up could affect eyesight.

Luckily, taking action to safeguard your eyesight is simple. Take regular screen breaks and ensure you have an eye test at least every two years to avoid eye strain. You should always remove make up before sleeping – and contact lenses. Make-up particles can irritate the eye and block the oily glands around the eyelashes, preventing the oils from contributing to the tear film that normally helps maintain a comfortable eye surface.
