He drove drunk

-

Q I’ve been seeing someone for a year and we were about to move in together, but I’m thinking twice now. We went to a friend’s for a barbecue and I agreed to be the driver, so he had a few bevvies. When we got back to mine in the evening, he opened a bottle and had a drink while I made a snack. Then his mother called saying she felt ill and could he come over. Before I had a chance to say or offer anything, he grabbed his keys and drove off. He came back an hour later and said she was fine. But I’m not! I’m furious with him, but he thinks I’m overreacting. Am I?

SUZIE SAYS

A Even with a medical emergency, he still should have asked you to drive. That he didn’t tells us two things – he knew it was trivial so felt you’d refuse, and he’s prepared to risk his driving licence, his insurance and, let’s face it, his and other people’s lives on an avoidable journey. Give him his car keys and tell him to take a hike.
