The gifted girls
Mastermind celebrates 50 years on air this month, and how brilliant to remember that the first three winners were women. In the first final, on Boxing Day 1972, the winner was Nancy Wilkinson, whose specialist subject was the history of music 1550-1900. She was followed by Patricia Owen and Elizabeth Horrocks and it was 1975 before the first male champion.
