The decision to notify loyal Clarence House staff of redundancies, while the royals were still in mourning, blighted King Charles’ first week in the job. Not only was it mean, in many ways it has sent a bad smell along the corridors where other household staff still give their all. None of them yet know if their jobs are now redundant – including some who have worked for the family their entire adult lives. Let’s hope His Majesty steps in.
