GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP = HEART-HEALTHY BENEFITS
While we know that sleeping well can be the difference between a good and a bad day, it could also be the difference between life and death, according to French researchers.
They found that seven in 10 heart attacks and strokes could be prevented if everyone got a decent night’s sleep, yet out of the 7,000 healthy over-50s that they tracked, only one in 10 did. It’s thought that a lack of sleep can trigger a stress response, which may be to blame. But why are we all sleeping so badly? The researchers suggest it may be because many of us are glued to our screens right up until lights out, making it hard for our bodies to wind down. Try opting to read a book or listen to a podcast before bed, and make sure your bedroom is kept cool and dark. You could even make it a no-phone zone.
