Should I cancel insurance for old pets?

-

Q My elderly cat rarely goes out. Should I cancel

A her insurance? A cat that stays indoors is less likely to be hit by a car or get in a fight. But they are at a stage in life where they are more susceptible to illness, and insurers say many more claims are for illness rather than injury. Thyroid issues, kidney problems and diabetes are just some of the common

conditions linked to elderly cats.

Medicine is so advanced now that life expectancies are increasing, so much more can be done for elderly pets in terms of managing conditions.

Remember that if you have had ‘for life’ cover up until now, then any pre-existing illness or conditions will be covered. If you break the insurance and then change your mind, all of those things will be excluded.
