Should I insure an ill pet?

-

Q My dog has a heart condition. Is it still worth getting

A him insured? Absolutely. I can understand how you feel if your dog has a pre-existing condition that isn’t covered by your insurance. Your vet is duty-bound to declare when the condition was noted, and if you hadn’t taken out the policy beforehand then it will probably be excluded. If you are already paying for scans, medication and monitoring it might feel like you are already spending enough.

However, there are still many other conditions or accidents that would be covered by insurance, and you have the peace of mind that if anything else happened you can have the best treatment options available. Unless you have a large sum of money tucked away in case of emergencies, paying a monthly amount will spread the cost and make sure your pet is protected.
