Mortgage misery

Thanks to Kwasi Kwarteng’s mini-budget, anyone having to renew their mortgage deals in the near future could face paying, on average, £500 more a month, which is a huge amount in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis. To add insult to injury he then scrapped his plan to end the top tax rate anyway! But the U-turn came too late – the damage was already done and mortgage rates have soared. What a shambles.
