MYTH: one bite of roast dinner won’t hurt
REALITY: Think hard before giving your dog anything from your roast dinner. Dogs aren’t used to human food, and the richness of the big day feast might easily upset their stomach. That won’t be a great Christmas present for you or the dog!
Be especially careful with turkey, as the bones can cause serious internal damage. Keep the bird out of the dog’s reach before and after cooking, and make sure any leftovers are secure, either in the fridge for sandwiches, or safely in the bin. Be aware, too, that certain traditional roast ingredients are also toxic to dogs – onions and garlic, for instance.
