A MONSTER IN DENIAL
Anew Ghislaine Maxwell documentary will shed further light on the woman who supplied underage girls to her paedophile pal, Jeffrey Epstein. Importantly, it features plenty of testimony from some of the survivors
– often overlooked in real-crime films.
‘I met Maxwell and Epstein through my sister Maria when I was 16 years old – we were both abused,’ states Annie Farmer. The pair are two of an estimated 500 victims.
In the Netflix film Ghislaine Maxwell: Filthy Rich, it’s an observation from former Maxwell family friend Petronella Wyatt that stands out.
Wyatt notes: ‘I believe that she didn’t think she was doing anything wrong.’
Such is Ghislaine’s entitlement and conviction that she’s a cut above the rest of us, she truly couldn’t see that sex-trafficking young women for Epstein to abuse was in any way questionable.
Let alone depraved and illegal.
Her socialite status ensured she went undetected for years as she scouted for girls from the comfort of a limo, picking those who looked needy. ‘They’re nothing, these girls,’ she is said to have observed. And she believed it.
As the documentary notes, Prince Andrew’s chum was just doing what she’d always done – keeping rich men happy. Randee Kogan, a psychotherapist working with Epstein survivors, is right when she says: ‘Class can cloud reality and Ghislaine capitalised on that.’
The documentary rightly describes her as a ‘monster’. This is the woman, after all, who is said to have rushed to her media-mogul dad’s yacht after Robert Maxwell was found dead in the sea, and ordered the crew to shred documents. She failed to hide that he’d stolen millions from Mirror pension funds, but she did her best. She probably didn’t see anything wrong with that, either.
As Ghislaine takes her daily exercise in the prison yard in Florida, she is almost certainly still in denial about the lives she ruined. To the rest of us, it’s clear: without her fixing skills, Epstein would have struggled to lure in most of his victims.
So let’s hope that inmate 02879-509 is kept behind those bars for the full term of her 20-year sentence.
It’s what she truly deserves.
