Telly Talk: Jamie Oliver

-

Chef, campaigner and dad-of-five Jamie Oliver is currently co-hosting Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night

Feast on Channel 4 with fellow foodie Jimmy Doherty. Here, Jamie talks celebrity guests, dodgy cooks and guilty pleasures…

Your show features celebrity guests cooking for the public in a cafe. Do you think it’s a winning formula?

It’s all about trying to make the weekend a little more exciting. We try to find quirky people. I want this show to be happy, inspiring and uplifting.

Who have been your favourite guests?

Joanna Lumley was brilliant, plus usain Bolt and Mark hamill.

You’ve even had families!

Yes – Goldie hawn and her daughter Kate hudson! Goldie was on first and told Kate she’d have a great time, so Kate came on a later series.

What campaigns are important to you?

food waste is one. We show that asking for mutton at the butcher would make a big difference to farming.

If you were Minister of Food what would be your first act?

I’d make it easier and cheaper to buy fresh food and make it harder and expensive to buy rubbish!

Who’s been the best cook?

Warwick Davis was really good and Johnny Vegas came in saying he was a terrible cook but left knowing he was quite handy! that was nice.

What’s your guilty food pleasure?

salt and vinegar hula hoops.
