Carol Mcgiffin: ‘every day is a battle’
Fears as friends believe Carol Mcgiffin is letting the past hold her back from embracing the future
Carol Mcgiffin has had more than her share of ups and downs over the years, it’s fair to say.
she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014, and after six rounds of chemotherapy and a mastectomy carol thankfully came out the other side.
But, woman’s own can reveal that carol’s loved ones have expressed concerns for her, as they feel she’s putting her life on hold.
Fear of a recurrence
‘after living with cancer carol is terrified it could come back. the fear is so bad that it holds her back from moving forward,’ our insider reveals.
the 58-year-old has admitted in the past that she does worry her breast cancer could return. ‘i’m positive for what is going to happen next year, but i’m a bit apprehensive. i’ve got a bit of a doom thing at the moment. nothing’s happened but i keep thinking the cancer will come back, which is making me not do things,’ she said.
and, despite being in recovery and in seemingly good health, the former Loose women panellist sparked concerns among some of her fans last november, when she admitted to having some test
results, after she was spotted leaving the royal free hospital in north London.
Understandably, her followers were quick to check in on the star. ‘hope you’re ok carol xx,’ one person wrote, while another added, ‘hope all is ok.’
Need-to-know basis
carol hasn’t opened up about the nature of her hospital visit, and her loved ones are concerned that she doesn’t talk about what’s going on in her life or lean on her friends and family enough. ‘carol refuses to talk about herself and would rather help others than give herself time to voice health fears,’ our insider continues. ‘getting the facts out of her is like getting blood from a stone – carol tells you what you need to know and nothing more. which should probably come as no surprise as she kept her cancer, at the time, secret, admitting, ‘i didn’t want anyone feeling sorry for me.’ and, it seems as though her health isn’t the only thing playing on her mind, as our source says that carol’s age and appearance are ever-present in her thoughts, especially as her fiancé mark cassidy is 22 years her junior. ‘growing old just wasn’t on her agenda,’ our insider reveals. ‘she often likens mark and herself to Peter Pan and wendy – where wendy ages and Peter doesn’t.’ since battling cancer, carol has confessed to frequently using
‘I keep thinking the cancer will come back’
Botox and has even admitted her desire to indulge in a little nip and tuck and have a facelift, but she has reservations.
‘i’ve had [Botox] done because i still really want to have a facelift, but i’ll do anything i can to avoid it,’ carol previously said.
our insider admits that carol fears it could all go wrong, ‘she has thought about having a facelift several times, but she worries where it will end. she doesn’t want to end up with a botched face.’
and, it’s unclear as to whether the presenter has decided to have reconstructive surgery after undergoing a mastectomy during her cancer battle. in 2016, she said that she had decided to have her breasts done, but in a tweet in 2017 carol admitted she was still considering the procedure.
in response to a follower who said they were undergoing the reconstructive surgery, she replied, ‘wow, good for you. i’d love to hear about it... i’m still umming and ahhhing.’
and on top of her perfectly understandable fears about health, carol’s relationship with fiancé mark, 36, has come under much media scrutiny.
Wedding plans
Despite being engaged for nearly 10 years now, the couple have yet to tie the knot, and carol has often talked about her desire to get married and has even pinned down a date in the past. ‘we’ll definitely get married next year. when i got sick, that did change things and made us decide to get it sorted out once and for all,’ she said in 2015. But, the wedding still hasn’t happened. ‘the two make a perfect team. he just wants her to see herself the way he does,’ our insider reveals. But, despite having their fair share of ups and downs, carol still has a wedding in mind. ‘they’ve been saying it’s going to happen for the past six years. carol even has three wedding dresses for the occasion,’ our insider continues. ‘she’s made it her wish that they tie the knot in france. she wants an enchanted chateau, drowning in medieval, mystical charm and of course plenty of wine and a whole lot of merriment. the date, however, remains to be confirmed.’ fingers crossed that this year is the year that carol gets her happily ever after.
